Corrosion analysis in the Machu test

The Machu test is a quick corrosion test for aluminium and steel. This immersion test for corrosion allows you to assess the performance of powder coating systems, the fading of pigments, the clouding of the film or the loss of gloss and film.

In contrast to the comparatively time-consuming salt spray test (acetic acid), the Machu-Test provides you with reliable corrosion test results after just a short test time.

The Machu test is fast and provides results that typically correlate well with the results of a salt spray corrosion test. Therefore, it is often used as a quick test before a more comprehensive assessment is initiated.

During a Machu test Your test plate samples are cut to the metal, scored and then exposed to a test solution containing sodium chloride, acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide at 37 °C for 48 hours. You can then determine the corrosion protection based on the infiltration at the scribe.

To get an idea of how effectively our immersion test for corrosion replicates the natural weathering process, consider the following: A test duration of 24 hours corresponds to 500 hours in a salt spray chamber and a 48-hour test corresponds to 1,000 hours.
