Blade type applicators
They are also known as "Drawdown bars" or "Doctor Blades" labelled and apply a wet film thickness that corresponds to about half of their gap size. They are an indispensable laboratory tool for uniform and reproducible applications on Leneta charts and other surfaces.
Bird Film Applicators®
Bird applicators are determined by their film width and the intended wet film thickness they are intended to apply. The latter value is engraved on one end of the applicator. To determine the approximate Propagation rate (spreading rate) in square feet per gallon (ft²/gal), divide 1604 by the specified wet film thickness (in ?).
Trade Sales ("U" shape) applicators
Each of these devices has a Gap distance of 0.15 mm (6 mil) and 0.2 mm (8 mil), so that Wet film thicknesses of approx. 0.076 mm or 0.1 mm (3 or 4 mil) can be applied. These are the most frequently recommended coating thicknesses for testing solvent-based and water-based architectural paints and varnisheswhich is why Leneta refers to them as "trade sales" applicators. The Film widths of 10.1 and 15.2 cm (4 and 6 inch) utilise the advantages of the most popular Leneta test chart widths of 14 and 19.4 cm (5-1/2 and 7-5/8 inches). Their "U" shaped structure retains a considerable volume of test varnish to minimise the Completeness of the drawdowns to ensure that
Dow Film Caster
This applicator was originally developed for Abrasion tests with latex paints on a 16.5 x 43.2 cm (6-1/2 x 17 inch) large Glass surface developed in which a 0.09 mm (3-1/2 mil) Thick test layer over a 0.13 mm (5 mil) thick primer is applied. Although the use of primed glass has been largely discontinued in tests of this type, the Applicator still for its individual distances used.
Leneta Wire-Cators™
For applying controlled film thicknesses of liquid coatings. Also known as "Wire-Bar Applicators" and "Mayer Rods".
General description: Wire-wrapped steel rods: Coatings flow out of the grooves between the wires - the Wire diameter determines the wet film thickness
Features of the Leneta Wire-Cators™
- Wire diameter: 0.064 - 1.9 mm (2.5 - 75 mils), results in wet film thicknesses: 0.18 - 6 mils (4.5 - 150 µm)
- Length of the winding: 254 mm (10 inch). Sufficiently long to coat most standard size plates and charts.
- Length of the rod: 305 mm (12 inch). Provides one inch (25 mm) of gripping clearance at each end.
- Diameter of the rod: 12.7 mm (1/2 inch). Thick enough to ensure essentially perfect rigidity.
- Composition: Made entirely of stainless steel. No rust or corrosion, even with water-based coatings. Non-magnetic, allows use with steel plates on a magnetic clamping plate.
Leneta Anti-Sag Meter and Sag & Leveling Test Chart
Used in ASTM D4400, Test Method for Sag Resistance of Paints.
These are Deflection metre (?) with a series of Notchesthat have a ever greater depth have. The depth of the notches is related to the Degree of deflection and provides a numerical value, which is known as the anti-sag index is labelled. The higher the anti-sag indexthe the deflection resistance is better of the coating.
The development of this instrument and its versatility for control and research have been described in published reports. Official Digest (JCT), October 1962. Official Digest (JCT), January 1964. The Anti-Sag Meter is required by ASTM Method D 4400 and Federal U.S. Fed, No. 141 Method 4494 and is an indispensable instrument in colour laboratories in the U.S. and around the world.
Leneta Logicator™ and Logicator Chart
The Leneta Logicator is a geometric Graduated, multi-notch applicatorthe for quick visual opacity measurements was developed. It complies with ASTM method D 5007, Wet-to-Dry Hiding Change. According to this standard, the Opacity of the wet and then the dry film visually observed and the percentage increase or decrease indicated. The Logicator Chart consists of the Form 9B Opacity Display Chart with a plastic laminated header overlay specially designed to complement this applicator.
Leneta drawdown plates
Leneta drawdown plates consist of a Precisely flat full glass platewhich on rubber buffers is mounted to prevent it from slipping during use. The drawdown surface consists of Robust, polished glasswhich in its evenness resembles Mirror glass resembles. One Steel clamp holds the chart, map or panel during the drawdown. These devices are an economical and convenient means of producing Drawdowns with uniform layer thickness. They are easy to use, easy to keep clean and extremely useful in any paint and coating laboratory.
Leneta vacuum plate
This is a Flat, perforated aluminium plate with an area of 22.9 cm x 30.5 cm (9 x 12 inches), on which the Drawdown charts and other flexible interfaces placed and during the application of coatings kept flat can be used. The surface is large enough to accommodate all Leneta charts up to a size of 14.3 cm x 28.6 cm (8-5/8 x 11-1/4 inches). A vacuum pump or laboratory vacuum source is required.
Non-stick interleaves
Leneta Inter-Leaf Papers are Thin, specially treated, non-sticky sheetswhich protect your test chart applications from the effects of adhesive residues. Place the Leneta Inter-Leaf Papers between the charts when stacking, shipping or storing them.
Paint-Out Starter Kit
Inexpensive Starter kit for the production of Drawdowns in commercial quality. Designed for facilities such as Paint shops and small laboratorieswhich only little experience with the application of even films have. This kit contains everything you need to produce smears in practical layer thicknesses, for samples or for tests.
