1700/1750 - Weight options
Without additional weights, each grinding arm exerts a load of 250 grams on the wheel that touches the sample. Together with the mass of the grinding arm, the stainless steel precision weights provide a total load of 500 or 1000 grams. An optional weight set that generates a load of 750 grams per disc is also available. For the sake of simplicity, the total load exerted on the disc (the sum of the weight and the grinding arm) is indicated on each weight. The weights labelled 500 grams are actually 250 grams. Weights labelled 1000 grams are actually 750 grams.
Counterweights are also available to further extend the range of wheel loads and can be used in conjunction with the standard weights. For the Taber Abraser model 1700/1750, a Counterweight arm kit required that 50 g counterweight and includes a counterweight to achieve 125g counterweight per abraser arm. Optional counterweights are available to achieve 150g or 175g counterweight. On older Taber abraser machines, the counterweights are attached to the mounting screw on the back of the abraser arm and are available as 50g, 125g, 150g or 175g. To compensate for the weight of the working wheels, the wheels can be placed on the fixing bolts for the counterweight.

If no wheel load is specified in the test method, a suitable load can be determined by testing. In order to obtain statistically meaningful results, it is recommended that a minimum number of test cycles (e.g. 100 - 300 cycles) be completed before the end point is reached.
