Bei der Prüfung bestimmter Materialien kann es jedoch vorkommen, dass die Schleifscheibenflächen durch den adhäsiven Charakter der von der Probe abgetragenen Partikel verstopft werden. Dies verändert die Abriebeigenschaften der Scheibe und kann die Prüfergebnisse beeinträchtigen. Um diese Schwankungen zu verringern, muss die Arbeitsfläche von Schleifscheiben vor dem Einsatz und, falls erforderlich, in regelmäßigen Abständen gereinigt und aufgefrischt werden. Dieser Vorgang wird als Refacing bezeichnet.
