Tramex Skipper 5 Moisture Meter SMM5
Tramex Skipper 5 Moisture Meter SMM5
Moisture meter for boats
CREATE VISUAL HUMIDITY MAPS AND REPORTS WITH THE TRAMEX METER APP
The Tramex Skipper Moisture Meter SMM5, the updated Skipper Plus, is an instant, accurate, analogue, non-destructive marine moisture meter that detects excess moisture in GRP boat hulls, decks and coach roofs, including sandwich or core structures.
Dual Depth moisture analyser
The dual depth function of the Skipper 5 makes it possible to determine where moisture is located in GRP composites. The shallow depth measurements, up to 10 mm (⅜"), and deep depth measurements, up to 30 mm (1¼"), can be used to compare surface and core moisture and eliminate the influence of the substrate when testing coverings.
Moisture mapping and data documentation
Moisture readings can be visualised with the Tramex Meters app and converted into moisture maps, reports and graphs to share. The Bluetooth connection to mobile devices also allows GeoTag test results to be recorded and photos to be created, saved and shared.
The Skipper Plus is now the Skipper 5
The Skipper 5 moisture meter is the new and improved version of the tried and tested Skipper Plus - SMP moisture meter, which has been a favourite among moisture professionals for many years.
How it works
GRP composites and hardwoods are non-conductive materials, yet their electrical properties change with increasing moisture content. The Skipper 5 determines the moisture content by applying a high frequency signal between a pair of soft rubber electrodes on the base of the device. A third electrode enables real measurements in the flat area on a smaller footprint. The capacitive coupling between the electrodes and the sample allows the impedance to be determined. This is interpreted as a moisture value and displayed on a large, clear moving-coil instrument. In addition, the measured values can be sent immediately via Bluetooth to a Tramex app on Android and iOS mobile devices.
Applications:
- Recognise osmosis problems before bubbles appear.
- Recognise wet cores in sandwich or core structures.
- Monitor the drying of the hulls before repairs and osmosis treatments.
- Check the wood for excess moisture before painting, coating or varnishing.
Effective osmosis treatment requires the complete removal of the hygroscopic solutes responsible for the absorption and retention of moisture and the formation of osmotic cells in GRP composites. The Skipper 5 has both deep and shallow modes, making it the ideal device to detect the moisture associated with these solutes to ensure successful treatment. Marine timbers also suffer from excessive moisture, causing blistering and loss of colour and varnish. Trapped moisture favours the growth of fungi and the formation of black fungal stains. The Skipper 5 provides fast, wide-area moisture measurement, reads through paints, varnishes and sheathings such as cascovers without damaging them, and can be used to locate and detect leaks above and below deck.
Features & benefits
- 3 areas of non-destructive sensitivity: Hard wood / Shallow depth / G.R.P
- Dual-Depth Penetration enables the comparison of surface and core moisture to determine the depth of moisture in GRP composites
- Deep signal penetration, up to 30mm (1¼" ) in wood and G.R.P, detects increased moisture at depth without damaging the materials being tested.
- Shallow depth scale is designed for a penetration depth of up to 10 mm (⅜")
- Shallow depth scale is comparable to needle measurements, with a smaller, more precise footprint.
- Large measuring range from 5% to 30% on the wood scale and 0 to 100 on the comparative scale for GRP.
- Detects excess moisture in GRP boat hulls, decks and bus roofs, including sandwich or core structures.
- Bluetooth connection to the accompanying IOS and Android app, which enables the documentation of moisture measurements and readings with geo-tags and supporting images.
- Hold function that allows the user to "freeze" the measured value, which is useful when measurements are taken in places where the measuring surface is not visible.
- Audio warning tone for high humidity, which can be switched on or off.
- Large, clear and easy-to-read analogue display for meaningful measured values.
- Robust, ergonomically designed housing.
