The Tramex Hygrohood is an insulated cover with a built-in hygrometer used for non-destructive testing of the relative humidity of concrete and other floors and screeds to international standards.

British Standard concrete testing

British Standards BS8201, BS8203, BS5325 recommend that a concrete floor or screed should be sufficiently dry to allow the installation of a resilient floor covering and that it should be tested using the isolated impermeable bonnet method. The Tramex CME5, CMEX5, CME4 or CMEX2 can be used to carry out non-destructive moisture content tests until the floor or screed reaches the moisture level specified by the floor covering manufacturer. The Tramex CME5, CMEX5, CME4 or CMEX2 can be used to identify the most problematic areas of the floor or screed. At this stage, relative humidity tests can be carried out using the Hygrohood to support non-destructive moisture content testing.

Conditioning and preparation before the test:

For the best and most accurate results, testing should be performed after the indoor conditions of the building in which the panel is located have reached normal operating temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours. Any artificial heating or drying equipment should be turned off at least 96 hours prior to final measurements, otherwise the results may not accurately reflect the amount of moisture present or the moisture movement in the panel under normal operating conditions. Avoid testing in locations exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources. The use of artificial aids to accelerate the drying of concrete is not recommended. If they are used, they should be switched off at least four days before the final measurement. It is advantageous to know the background of the construction site, e.g. when the floor or screed was poured, the thickness of the concrete, etc.

Examination:

  1. Before the hygro bonnet is placed on the floor panel, the surface should be free of foreign objects and cleaned of dust or loose materials that could interfere with a proper seal between the bonnet and the floor surface.
  2. Use butyl tape to seal the insulated bonnet to the concrete surface.
  3. The hygrometer records minimum and maximum values while it remains switched on. C°/F° units are optionally available. The memory is reset when the device is switched off.

Always follow the adhesive and/or flooring manufacturer's recommendations for the permissible moisture content of concrete screeds.

Calibration:

  • The hygrometer is factory calibrated to 75% RH at 20°C.
  • The calibration should remain stable for a period of at least one year from the date of purchase, provided the device has not been physically damaged or misused.

Measuring range:

  • Relative Luftfeuchtigkeit: 20% – 99%RH
  • Temperatur 0°C – 50°C / 32° – 122°F
  • Toleranzen: +/- 3%, +/- 1°C / +/- 2°F

Specifications:

  • Grösse: 195mm x 195mm x 55mm
  • Gewicht: 30g
