In a typical abrasion test, the Coating applied to the Leneta abrasion test panel with a specific layer thickness, dried out and then with a straight/linear abrasion tester tested. In ASTM D 2486, a 10 mil (250 µm) thick shim is placed under the panel to accelerate the failure and thus shorten the test time.

The abrasion resistance is the number of abrasion cyclesthat are required to remove the coating up to a certain end point. Alternatively, the Weight loss after a certain number of scrubbing cycles can be determined as a measure of abrasion resistance, whereby the corresponding loss of coating thickness is calculated.

Leneta Scrub Test Panels have a special, finely textured surface for improved adhesion. As the colours are gradually removed during the scrubbing process, a "feathered edge" is created, which enables a more precise determination of the end point.
