This guide describes the use of reference photos showing the appearance of both unpainted and painted and partially rusted hot rolled carbon steel before and after blast cleaning. More than 50 colour reference photos show the cleanliness requirements for SP 5/NACE 1 (White Metal Blast Cleaning), SP 6/NACE 3 (Commercial Blast Cleaning), SP-7/NACE 4 (Brush-Off Blast Cleaning), SP 10/ANCE 2 (Near-White Blast Cleaning) and SP 14/NACE 8 (Industrial Blast Cleaning) and serve as a supplement to the written SSPC/NACE standards for surface preparation by blast cleaning. Includes both the English and Spanish languages.

Standard method for assessing the degree of rust on painted steel surfaces

This guide provides a method for assessing the degree of rust on painted steel (or iron) surfaces. The 27 reference colour photographs and corresponding black and white images show the maximum acceptable percentage of rust for each rust level from 1 to 9. This standard quantifies the rust level on painted steel surfaces with a scale from zero to ten, based on the percentage of visible rust on the surface.

The full-colour reference photos show various conditions of painted, unpainted, rusted and welded hot-rolled carbon steel surfaces before and after cleaning with power and hand tools. This guide serves as a supplement to the reference standards SP 2 ("Hand Tool Cleaning"), SP 3 ("Power Tool Cleaning"), SP 11 ("Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal") and SP 15 ("Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning"). Includes the languages English, Spanish and Portuguese.

This guide describes the use of reference photos that show the appearance of unpainted, rusted carbon steel and painted carbon steel with or without rust before and after cleaning with water jets.

These reference photos are intended to supplement the four written standards SSPC-SP WJ-1/NACE WJ-1 - Waterjet Cleaning of Metals - Clean to Bare Substrate, SSPC-SP WJ-2/NACE WJ-2 - Waterjet Cleaning of Metals - Very Thorough Cleaning, SSPC-SP WJ-3/NACE WJ- - Waterjet Cleaning of Metals - Thorough Cleaning and SSPC-SP WJ-4/NACE WJ-4 - Waterjet Cleaning of Metals - Light Cleaning.

Guide and reference photographs for abrasive wet-blasted steel surfaces

This guide describes the use of reference photographs showing the appearance of unpainted, rusted carbon steel before and after wet abrasive blast cleaning (WAB or slurry blasting). The techniques and equipment for wet blast cleaning are described in SSPC-TR 2/NACE 6G198.

The reference photos are intended as a supplement to the written standards SSPC-SP10/NACE No. 2, SSPC-SP-6/NACE No. 3 and ISO 8501-1 (E). This guide can be used to clarify the acceptable level of flash rust allowed prior to the application of protective coatings.
