Article TK-21 Leneta paper test ink with low penetration depth for uncoated paper to assess mottling, absorption resistance and porosity
This test ink provides a quick and easy way to monitor variations in paper structure and porosity from batch to batch. Uncoated paper with low holdout requires a low penetration ink, such as TK-21, to avoid excessive colour that would mask any mottle or holdout differences.

Test procedure
The ink is applied to the paper to be tested using a spatula or a drawdown applicator. After one minute, the ink is removed by scraping off most of the ink with a ruler and carefully wiping off the rest with a clean paper towel. The resulting test sample is visually inspected for stains and porosity. To obtain an instrumental value for porosity, the CIE-Y reflectance or densitometer values of the coloured and uncoloured areas are measured and then calculated:
