Tramex MEX5 moisture analyser

Tramex MEX5 moisture analyser

Moisture and humidity meter for building and home inspections - with probe connection

CREATE VISUAL HUMIDITY MAPS AND REPORTS WITH THE TRAMEX METER APP

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 is a digital, non-destructive moisture analyser with two measuring depths that is ideal for measuring moisture and humidity levels in buildings.

The Tramex MEX5 measures moisture content in timber and drywall and provides comparative measurements in various building materials such as roofing, plaster, tiles and masonry. It also has a built-in hygrometer for ambient and psychrometric readings, an infrared surface thermometer and optional external in-situ RH probes for in-situ equilibrium RH measurements and pin probes for wood, drywall and WME measurements. These individual and collective functions make the MEX5 an indispensable tool for professionals in the field of building moisture testing and remediation.

Double depth measuring range

The Tramex MEX5 moisture analyser has a double depth measuring range. Deep penetration depth of up to 1¼" (30 mm) and shallow penetration depth of up to ⅜" (9 mm).

The two depth measurements of surface and core moisture can be compared in order to eliminate the influence of the substrate when testing coverings.

The pinless moisture meter measures the moisture content of wood in the range of 0-30%. The meter can be extended by the use of pin probes for wood, wood by-products and drywall as well as relative humidity probes to assess environmental conditions.

All moisture and humidity readings can be visualised and geotagged with the Tramex Meters app and converted into moisture maps, reports and charts for sharing.

Moisture analyser design

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 recognises and evaluates the moisture condition in various building materials by non-destructive measurement of the electrical impedance. An electronic low-frequency signal is transmitted into the material via the electrodes in the base of the device. The strength of this signal varies in relation to the moisture content of the material being tested. The MEX5 determines the strength of the current and converts it into a moisture content, which is shown on the large display.

Use:

  • Localisation of moisture and relative humidity problems in and behind a variety of building materials in the building envelope.
  • Mapping the extent of moisture damage to buildings.
  • Monitoring the progressive drying conditions in the drying process of building materials and surfaces.
  • Dual Depth Penetration enables the comparison of surface and core moisture and the elimination of substrate influence when testing coverings.

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 utilises advanced digital technology to enable the integration of 4 measurement modes and a range of advanced functions, all shown on a large, clear and easy to read digital display: 58mm x 35mm.

1. mode of non-destructive testing (NDT)

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 provides a non-invasive moisture measurement at two depths of %MC moisture content in wood. The comparison scales (or relative scales, REL) have different sensitivity ranges suitable for materials of different densities. They are used for moisture measurements in wood by-products and a wide range of building materials such as drywall, roofing, plaster, tile and masonry. The shallow depth mode can also be used for comparative measurements in these materials.

2. pin probe mode (optional plug-in probe)

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 becomes a pin probe meter that measures the percentage moisture content (%MC) of wood by resistance when used with the optional plug-in pin probe meter. International wood standards or pre-programmed wood species can be selected. The pin probe mode can also be used for drywall. %MC and WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) values for other materials.

3. hygrometer/psychrometry mode

The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 measures the relative humidity (RH), the ambient temperature (Ta), the dew point temperature (Td) and the humidity ratio (GPP, g/kg) of the environment with its built-in hygrometer. These measured values are displayed at the bottom of the screen for the respective mode or scale used. In psychrometry mode, the DELTA T temperature value (difference between the ambient temperature and the
the dew point temperature).
The surface temperature and the enthalpy value (the measurement of energy in a thermodynamic system) can also be displayed.

4. in-situ equilibrium mode and ambient relative humidity mode (optional plug-in sensor)

With the optional Hygro-i2 probes, the Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 measures the relative humidity, temperature, dew point and specific humidity in building materials, insulation or indoor spaces. A building material, such as a concrete slab, can be tested using the in-situ method or the RH Hood methods (International Standards: ASTM F2170 & BS 8201, 8203, 5325). Relative humidity probes can also be used to measure relative humidity in air spaces within the building envelope.
